Can Vaping help smokers lower their blood pressure?

Time:2017-08-07 Views:1338
High blood pressure is common among smokers. Can Vaping help reduce the risk of heart disease?

Can Vaping help smokers lower their blood pressure and avoid weight gain after they stop smoking? If so, switching from cigarettes to steam products in the early years could significantly reduce the risk of heart disease.

Survey only to a new study of smoking, just vape, or through vaping to reduce tobacco use in hypertensive patients, found that smokers by vaping greatly reduces the quit cigarettes, tobacco use, or the systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure are "significantly reduced".

The study, led by Dr Riccardo Polosa of the university of catania, Italy, was published in the international journal of environmental research and public health. He also studied the effects of vaping, including studies that found that smoking cessation or smoking reduction by using e-cigarettes can actually reverse the effects of smoking in asthma patients.

Why is blood pressure so important?

Heart disease and stroke are one of the main causes of premature death among smokers. Smokers are twice as likely to have fatal cardiovascular disease over the next decade, and young smokers are five times more likely to have a heart attack than non-smokers. Cigarette smoke causes atherosclerosis and a low degree of systemic inflammation, both of which can lead to high blood pressure. High blood pressure increases the risk of cardiovascular disease among smokers.

According to the authors, there is not much information about the long-term effects of quitting smoking on blood pressure in smokers who have high blood pressure. In addition, the benefits of quitting are often offset by the weight gain of former smokers. Weight gain itself is a risk factor for high blood pressure and heart disease, complicating the analysis of the problem.

Polosa and his team found that using electronic smoke significantly limits their weight gain after quitting smoking, compared to non-vape smokers. "A slight increase in weight gain after switching to regular e-cigarettes may have contributed to the positive long-term effects of smoking cessation on blood pressure and blood pressure control," they conclude.

Although there are some restrictions (sample size, no control to other lifestyle factors, take the self-reported smoking patterns), but studies suggest that vaping to help smokers to reduce the risk of serious cardiovascular harm can play an important role. "Regular e-cigarette use may help reduce the number of smokers who have high blood pressure, or after quitting smoking, only a minuscule weight gain," they concluded. Larger studies can confirm these results.
